I was impacted by how Gladys’s small steps of faith, even despite her doubts, allowed God to do so many great works and save so many people through her. She was able to witness God’s saving power as she simply brought what she had to offer , though it was little. I was inspired by the steps of obedience that she took and how God used that to bless so many people.

I’m done with finals, as well as Gladys Aylward’s The Little Woman! She headed to China all alone and had pretty much nothing from start to finish, but she had God, faith, and so much joy. It’s amazing how God works miracles with just faith and obedience.

What struck me most about Gladys Aylward was simple, strong love for Jesus. Her convictions led her to act despite a “lack of credentials”. I can’t believe the number of people who basically told her “you’re out of your mind”…and yet she went ahead boldly anyways. Her prayer life was rich and revealed a dependency on God that I’m inspired to cultivate in my own life. Can’t wait to meet “Ai-wei-deh” in heaven one day 🙂

I was really impacted by how God used her simple, steps of faith. There were many moments in the book where CRAZY stuff happened and she recounted it in just a simple paragraph and then moved forward with recounting more of how God had been working. I saw a life of obedience to God’s calling and a life dedicated to working for the Lord! 🙂

Although familiar with her story, I still am amazed by how her faith led her to China and how God worked through her even when she was deemed as “unfit” to be a missionary. She cared not only for the Chinese but also for her own motherland and how they were becoming calloused towards God with distractions of media, etc. It’s amazing to hear how her legacy was passed down to her orphan children as well as they prayed in faith for the rivers waters to part like Moses and the red sea during their dangerous journey away from the Japanese and how one particular boy would even go back to the village they had left to share the gospel to his own people.

This book was such a pleasure to read – didn’t put it down once I started! I was inspired by her courage to follow God despite her fears and lack of resources. In all the times when she could’ve given up because of practical reasons, she focused on God rather than her lack, and continued to take steps of faith.
The end of the book sums up her story really well “My heart is full of praise that one so insignificant, uneducated and ordinary in every way could be used to His glory and for the blessing of His people in poor persecuted China.”
