With scarcely enough food or money for his own family, George Muller opened his heart and home. Sustained by God’s provision, the Muller house “Breakfast Club” of thirty orphans grew to five large houses that ultimately over ten thousand children would call home.
George Muller trusted God with a depth rarely seen. His faith and generosity set a standard for Christians of all generations.
This was an amazing story of God’s daily provision and what a life devoted to prayer can accomplish! I was challenged by Muller’s faith and trust in God with his finances–some prayers I thought that there was no way God could do that. I was wrong, time and time again God surely did provide and abundantly so. I was brought to tears by the spinster and others who had little but gave so much

Also read George Muller’s biography (in the Christian Heroes series). It’s crazy to think that this thieving, deceitful, little boy grew up to care for so many orphans ALL through prayer. What’s even more inspiring is that it’s not like he was born for greatness or anything superhuman like that; he just practiced small steps of faith (like praying that God would provide money for school if it was God’s will for George to go to school) which confirmed God as a promise keeper. Through these small steps, George’s faith kept growing until eventually his faith overshadowed the problems he faced.

One thing that stands out about George Mueller is his prayer life! He prayed for everything! Things from fixing a heating pipe so the children won’t experience cold in winter weather to furniture to providing food for all the orphans when they had completely ran out and all the orphans were sitting all ready to eat at the dining tables! God answered them all! Truly through his life, I saw his faith and confidence in God to work through his prayers and see how God is someone who hears and responds to our prayers and is actively involved in kingdom work through prayer.

My friend Sarah Cho kept telling me that I would love George Mueller’s story the most, and I was skeptical…but she was right haha. I was so challenged by his dedication to prayer and complete dependence on God in everything. He didn’t compromise his commitment to ask God for everything, even in the most desperate situations, and God followed through each time. I would highly recommend this book to anyone who wants encouragement to start their prayer life and/or example to follow to become a prayer warrior!
