(Not So) Extreme Library Makeover: HB Edition

With the launch of Bibliopolis U over at DL for the college students, we decided to revamp the church library over at Gracepoint Berkeley church, and create some inviting reading spaces for all of us post-college readers, too! Unfortunately, we don’t have any “before” pictures, but you can use your imagination. It was basically one large room that was used primarily as a hallway between the two wings of HB. We started by rearranging the furniture that was already in the room, sliding Bibliopolis Adult Extension over to the other side to make room for the bookstore, which we moved in its entirety over into the room! We celebrated the Grand Opening of the new Library Bookstore with a Praxis Book Fair.

Thanks to these 4 sisters from ECM & IGSM who helped beautify the space for our Grand Opening!

Special thanks to the brothers who transported these Kallax shelves (product placement for IKEA), which are crucial as room dividers and book displayers. (There’s still a nice hallway for you to get to the other side of the building, but there’s a good chance you might buy a book on your way there!)

The long couch doesn’t look as daunting anymore! And if you’re wondering why there are so many flowers and…ladylike decorations around, it’s because we got extra mileage out of all our Sisters’ Night decor!

Proof that brothers hang out in the Library Bookstore too!

It’s been great to see people reading there throughout the day and night. There are signs to point you towards the Bookstore, Bibliopolis Adult Extension lending library, and there’s also the main church library too. It’s only a *little* confusing, but it’s a work in progress. πŸ™‚ Hope you can come and visit the space soon. And there’s almost always classical music playing. Just sayin’!
